Scene it Saturday 13-2018

For my scene, I chose a very simple image.

I wanted a spring image, so I chose one from the Cricut cartridge called A Child's Year.  There are some wonderful silhouettes in this cartridge.  I cut it in black cardstock.  I stamped the sentiment form Unity Stamp Company (Let Love Grow, the February 2013 KOM) with Versamark and then heat embossed using white embossing powder.  The gingham background seemed to fit the child inspired scene and I set it off with a matching solid color. - Denise

Freestyle Friday 13-2018

Even though St. Patrick's Day is now over, I wanted to show this card that has both green and plaid following this month's themes.

This was a quick card cut on the Cricut.  It used the cartridges Create a Critter 2 and Anna's Seasonal Soirees.  Using green glitter vinyl for the hat and bow tie really set it off.  I used a brad to attach the shamrock to the base which allowed it to be swung up to reveal a message underneath.  The plaid paper is from a pack by The Paper Studio called Plaid Tidings.  - Denise

Thursday in 3D 13-2018

Doing cards in 3-D is something I love and have been stepping up my box cards.

This cute file came from svgcuts.com.  It came from the set called Father's Day Box Cards.  I cut the various parts from scraps of cardstock and used a couple of gray shimmer paper that I had.  It actually went together easily and folds flat for mailing.  To add some depth, I sponged the edges of all the accessories before putting them together.  - Denise

Wow Wednesday 13-2018

Wednesdays are when we take a previous card and turn up the volume by adding sparkle or shine.

Here is my original card.

And here it is with more pizzazz.

For the birthdays for the members of my church this year, I am using an old hymnal and stamping an image on top of a page from the hymnal and then watercoloring them.  They are pretty, but seemed to lack something, so I decided to add Wink of Stella to the image and place some sequins around the front.  It seems to add just the right amount of shine without being over the top.  The image is from Gina K called Stately Flowers 4 and the paper is from DCWV called The Travel Stack.  - Denise

Technique Tuesday 13-2018

The technique for this month is foiling.  I had fun with gold foil to make this card.

I saw this saying on the internet, but with coffee.  Since my daughter and I love tea, I changed it up and printed the sentiment on green paper using a laser printer.  Laser printers use toner which melts when using a laminating machine allowing the foil to adhere to the paper where there is toner.  Another way to adhere the foil is to use embossing powder and heat emboss an image, then run it through the laminating machine with foil.  That is the technique I used for the gold pouting from the pot of tea.  I cut the pot and cup on my Cricut, then arranged them on my card to see where to put the gold.  I used a Ranger Perfect Medium pen in the area I wanted to be gold and heat embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I then put Minc reactive gold foil over it and ran it through my Minc machine.  I glued the pot and cup into place to make it look like the gold was being poured into the cup.  I think it turned out pretty cool.  The papers are from Authentique  called Charmed and the Cricut cartridge used was called Disney Princess Dreams Come True.  - Denise

Mistletoe Monday 13-2018

This card uses something that I almost threw away.

Since this month's theme is everything plaid, I decided to use some of my washi tape to make a plaid pattern.  I covered a 4 x 5 1/4 black panel with a green foil, a gold and a gold dot washi tape leaving some gaps between to show the black.  I meant to use this as a background, but it was much too busy looking for my taste and I was gong to just throw it away and start over.  Instead I took my 2 inch round punch and punched a couple of circles from the panel.  I mounted those on gold foil paper along with a black circle with the sentiment heat embossed in gold.  The sentiment came from a Unity set called Conspiracy of Love, October 2017 KOM. I rimmed a card front with the same green foil washi used in the plaid and then layered the gold panel on top of that. - Denise

Sweet and Simple Sunday 13-2018

This month's theme is all things plaid and the colors green, black and gold or silver.

Since green is my favorite color, I loved making some of these cards.

I made the background of this card by masking off with washi tape for vertical strips and using a distress applicator with Oxide Ink in Peeled Paint.  I then repeated the process horizontally. To give it a little more, I hand drew black lines with a thin black marker.  They aren't perfect, but I like the look.  The stamp and sentiment are from Unity called Luck to Go.  I painted the shamrocks with the same Distress Ink which made them match perfectly.  Both the tag and sentiment were popped up on foam tape with a few sequins added. - Denise

Scene it Saturday 12-2018

Hi! It's Sue with my last card this week. Boy, has the week ever gone by fast!

The theme for March is all things plaid and the color scheme is either green and silver or gold and black. For Scene it Saturday, the theme is to create a scene.

Here's my card

I started with Echo Park’s Magical Plaid Stencil and added distress inks (mowed lawn and twisted citron) onto white cardstock. I then heat embossed with silver embossing powder these four houses from Claudine Hellmuth’s Dwelling stamp set. Here's a close-up of the houses.

I fussy cut the houses and added the light standard from the same stamp set, also heat embossed with silver, this time on the black panel. The sentiment was also heat embossed with silver using Hero Arts’ Layered Topiary stamp set.

Thanks for stopping by all week. See you next month.

Thursday in 3D 12-2018

Hi! It's Sue with a new card for you.

The theme for March is all things plaid and the color scheme is either green and silver or gold and black. For Thursday in 3D, the theme is to create a 3D card. I looked through Pinterest looking for ideas. I found one, making a 3D skirt – starting with sort of a semi circle and folding it to make a pleated skirt. Here's my card.

Here's a close-up of the pleated skirt.

I used Echo Park’s Magical Plaid stencil with Versamark and gold embossing powder to make the plaid. I added a belt and a top. The sentiment is from Paper Smooches’ Word Salad.

Thanks for stopping by. I'll have another card for you tomorrow.

Wow Wednesday 12-2018

Hi! Sue back with another card for you today.

The theme for March is all things plaid and the color scheme is either green and silver or gold and black. The basic premise for Wow Wednesday is to start with a card and then turn up the volume on that card. I started with a clean and simple card, using Recollections Backyard Table and gold embossing powder. Here's the card, I started with.

I die cut the sentiment using Simon Says STAMP Painted Thanks die.

To turn up the volume, I added a gold butterfly die cut using Paper Smooches Butterfly Duet die with gold cardstock. I added rhinestones for some sparkle onto the diecut butterfly. I also added some Michaels’ Celebrate It gold and black trim to turn up the volume. Here's the new card.

Thanks for stopping by. See you tomorrow with a new card.

Technique Tuesday 12-2018

It's Sue, back again with another card for you today.

The theme for March is all things plaid and the color scheme is either green and silver or gold and black. The technique for Technique Tuesday for March is foiling. I don’t own any fancy foiling machines so I had to improvise.  Here's my card.

I used  Echo Park’s Magical Plaid Stencil with a glue pen and gilding flakes (Cosmic Shimmer) to create a panel  2.375” x 3.5”. I cut some gold cardstock 2.625” x 3.75”. Initially, I was going to mat the plaid panel. However, I like the look of offsetting the two panels. The sentiment uses Simon Says STAMP Painted Thanks die. I put everything on a black panel. Here's a close-up.

Thanks for stopping by today. Come back tomorrow, and I'll have another card for you.

Mistletoe Monday 12-2018

Hi! It's Sue again, back with another card.

The theme for March is all things plaid and the color scheme is either green and silver or gold and black. For Mistletoe Monday, the theme is to create either a Christmas or Holiday card. I changed the color scheme to the green and silver. Here's my card.

I used Lawn Fawn Gingham Backdrops and silver embossing powder on green cardstock. I used the plaid for a 0.75” x 5.5” strip on the left side of the card. I used Paper Smooches Holly dies for the holly and a regular hole punch for the berry. The sentiment is from Penny Black’s Hello Winter stamp set and was heat embossed with silver embossing powder. When I stamped the sentiment using my MISTI, I re-stamped and didn’t realize that the paper had shifted a bit. However, when I heat embossed it, I was pretty happy with the effect.

Thanks for stopping by. See you back here, tomorrow.

Scene It Saturday

This Month's Theme is: All Things Plaid

Today's Prompt:  Scene It Saturday (Create a Scene Card)

Color Scheme is green, gold or silver, black

Technique:  Foiling

Today's scenic card was created using Stampendous stamps, dies and stencils.  The sky was created by applying Salty Ocean Distress Oxide ink over the Stampendous Picasso Stencil.  The ocean was created by applying Broken China DO Ink with a blending tool.  The waves were created by applying  Salty Ocean DO ink through the stencil that is included with the Sailboat Cling Stamp Set.  I stamped and die cut the sail boat and the "wave" images with white watercolor c/s. I colored the sailboat with Carved Pumpkin Distress Marker and water.

I added foil to the card by applying Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter Glue to the vertical and horizontal "poles" on the sail boat.  The glue dries clear and tacky, which makes it easy to apply foil (gold).  The close up photo below shows how the foil adds a nice touch to the image.

This week, I shared several different ways to add foil to your cards and projects.  I hope you will try some of these fun techniques. ~ Kimberly

Freestyle Friday

This Month's Theme is: All Things Plaid

Today's Prompt:  Freestyle Friday (anything goes)

Color Scheme is green, gold or silver, black

Technique:  Foiling

Today's card offers another option to incorporate foil into our card making.  The background is a gel print I created using alcohol inks.  I applied alcohol inks, blue and yellow, onto the gel plate straight from the bottles.  Next, I used a brayer to spread the inks which created a green while retaining the original two colors.   I used a background stamp (Tim Holtz Papillon) to create interest, then let it alone to dry.  I applied a thin layer of white acrylic paint with a brayer and picked up the print with a piece of mixed media cardstock.  I stamped the butterfly image (Tim Holtz Papillon) with black Staz On Ink.  I applied Cosmic Shimmer Flake and Glitter Glue to the bodies of the butterfly images and let dry (the glue dries tacky)  I then applied gold foil and it created the result you see in the photos.  The sentiment is from Tim Holtz metallic quotations. The card is size A2.  ~ Kimberly

Today's Prompt:  Technique Tuesday

Color Scheme is green, gold or silver, black

Technique:  Foiling

Inspiration Video

I created today's card by applying decofoil transfer gel through a stencil (Tim Holtz) onto white cardstock.  The gel goes on white and dries clear.  When the gel is clear, then it is ready to go through the laminator.  The foil is green/gold by deco art.  I trimmed the panel as shown and adhered to a black A2 size card base.  The sentiment is by W plus 9 and stamped with Hero Arts unicorn white pigment ink.

Mistletoe Monday

This Month's Theme is: All Things Plaid

Today's Prompt:  Mistletoe Monday (Christmas/Holiday Card)

Color Scheme is green, gold or silver, black

Technique:  Foiling

For today's card, I created a gift tag.  The tag is the size of an ATC Card (2 1/2" x 3 1/2").  I die cut the snowflake (Casual Friday) with decofoil peel and stick toner sheets.  I used a laminating machine to adhere the green/gold decoart foil to the die cut.  I trimmed a piece of Tim Holtz plaid paper slightly smaller than the black card base and adhered the layers as shown.  I cut the sentiment with a Catherine Pooler die and adhered to the card.  The gem is Queen and Co.  ~ Kimbery

Sweet and Simple Sunday

Hi, Kimberly here as this week's CADC Designer.
This Month's Theme is: All Things Plaid

Today's Prompt:  Sweet and Simple Sundays
Color Scheme is green, gold or silver, black

Today's card is all about foiling.  The background is Foilables Pattern Pack Toner Sheet by Creative Vision Stamps.  I used a laminator to apply multicolored (my version of plaid) foil to the toner sheet background.  The toner sheet is a sturdy cardstock pre cut to layer on an A2 size card base.  I die cut the hello (lawn fawn) from black paper and adhered to the bottom of the card. The base is A2, black c/s.  ~ Kimberly

Scene it Saturday 09-2018

The scene for my card is one up in the air.

I started by cutting a card base on my Cricut so that the cute little heart would be cut out in the corner.  I then cut a wavy line on a piece of scrap paper to use as a mask and starting at the top sponged on Distress Ink, then moved it down and sponged again, repeating that down the face of the card front.  I stamped the plane from a Local King Rubber stamp called Up and Away using red ink, then cut it out with a matching die. I placed it where I could use a stamp from a Unity Stamp set called Heart Flutter to look like skywriting behind it (also stamped in red) and popped it up on foam dots. I put the plaid paper (from Authentique Adventrue) on the inside of the card to peek through the cut out and the heart that was cut out in the opposite corner with the sentiment.  A good card for my son who is a pilot. - Denise

Freestyle Friday 09-2018

For this card, I used my Cricut to make a cute punny Valentine for my granddaughter.

I used double sided-cardstock from a stack by DCWV called Tutti Frutti to make the card base and to cut out the images on my Cricut. The image is from the cartridge called Slumber Party.  I used a heart punch on the scrap paper to cover the inside cover and printed the inside sentiment on my computer for a personalized greeting. - Denise

Thursday in 3D 09-2018

This year I am making box cards for my family's birthday cards, but ramping them up a bit.

This one is from a great cut found on svgcuts.com.  It is part of a group called Garden Party Box Cards.  I cut it out on my Cricut Explore using a white wood grain paper from Altenew.  It is a finely embossed card stock that really looks like painted wood.  Since the wood grain is only on one side, I cut it out twice and cut the second one in pieces to put on the outside sides of the chair.  That also gave it quite a bit of stability.  I used a distress sponge with gray Distress Ink around the edges to give it a slightly weathered look.  The pillow and towel on the back used paper from Carta Bella called Beach Boardwalk. It looked a little plain, so I decided to add a wine bottle to lean against the pillow on the chair and wanted to add a glass of wine on the arm. I had trouble deciding how to make a thin flat cutout stand up on the arm.  I finally cut two circles out of some thin cork I had from a DCWV stack.  I cut one in half and glued one of the halves to the whole circle.  I put the bottom of the wine glass against the cut side and glued the other half of the cork in place with the glass wedged in between the two halves.  It looked like the glass is on a coaster and could be glued to the arm.  When I did that, it made it so that I couldn't fold the card up flat to mail, and I ended up giving it to my sister-in-law in person. If you have a February birthday, you deserve to dream about the beach. This was a fun card to do. - Denise
