Color Challenge Tuesday #22

Today's color challenge was picked solely on the fact that one of the paint names is Fireworks. LOL

Here is how Kathy used the colors:

I used a Stampin Up heart stamp and folded each cut out in half to make the petals.
I used Calypso Coral ink from SU for the sentiment.   ~ Kathy

Clean and Simple Sunday #22

Today's challenge is to create a clean and simple sympathy card.

This card was created using Ranger Distress Inks, Versa Fine Black Onyx ink and clear embossing powder.

I used a mask cut from Inkadinkado masking paper to create the scalloped circle.

Hopefully you won't need a sympathy card anytime soon, but they are good to have on hand.

To enter the giveaway all you have to do is comment on the blogs in today's hop.
We always appreciate you becoming a follower of the blogs as well.

You should have arrived here from Sarah's blog.

Today's challenge is to create a Magic Window Card and Denise incorporated a bug just for this hop.

Here is a video tutorial from Deb Valder.  Please consider liking and subscribing to her channel.

Denise liked the challenge so much she made two cards for you today.

I have wanted to do these cards for a long time, so I was excited when that became my challenge.  In fact I was so excited, I did two different cards. The first one is a Father's Day card for my kids to give to their Grandfather. I was able to just "eyeball" the alignment using the grid on my acrylic stamping block and it came out great.  The second one is for a group I belong to where we send things to a "secret sister".  At the end, we reveal ourselves which I am doing with this card. I had a much harder time getting this one aligned and finally looked to see if there was something else I could use since I didn't have a Stamp-a-ma-jig and none of the stores in town sold one.  I found someone on YouTube who used Lego blocks. It was pure genius and worked great.  I will be making more of these because I just love how they work and were really pretty quick to make.  ~ Denise

Here's the video on making your own stamp positioner out of building blocks. :)

Your last stop is Tristan's FB page.

Thanks for hopping along with us today.  Don't forget to comment to be entered into the prize drawing.

Anything Goes Friday #21

Today's challenge is to use freezer paper as a mask.

I cut the hello and smile dies from freezer paper and ironed it onto the Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper then went to town with Ranger Distress Inks and lots of water.

Why use freezer paper instead of masking paper or a postie?
Because the freezer paper plastic melts onto the paper and seals the paper.  This is especially important when you are using lots of water.  Other masking paper products just can't stand up to all that water and tend to have leakage under the mask.

Give this a try.  It's a lot of fun and you can get some really cool effects.

Card Sketch Wednesday #21

Today's sketch  was found on Pinterest and I'm sorry but I don't know the original source.

Here is Kathy's take on the sketch:

I used Map background Uncharted cardstock by the Paper Studio, with Tattered and Worn cardstock for the accent square.   The stamp is from Fiskars Simple Expressions.   I used Ranger Mowed Lawn ink to edge the printed papers and SU River Rock ink on the white cut out.  The words are in SU Soft Suede ink.
The gems are Bo Bunny Double Dot jewels.   ~ Kathy

Color Challenge Tuesday #21

Today's color challenge is fun and yummy too.

Denise did a create job using this color scheme to create this stinkin' cute card.

I had pinned the idea for this card on Pinterest a while ago.  This color challenge was the chance to use it.  I designed each of the elements on Design Space by welding a rectangle, oval and the letter together.  It was cut out on my Explore. I laid them all out facing down and ran Scrappy Tape on the back several places so that I could attach them as one piece on the card. That kept the spacing right. I then stamped the small "birthday" on the bottom. The original idea for the card said "THANKS" so you could use the idea for other things.  ~ Denise

Have fun with this one!

Mistletoe Monday #21

Today's challenge is to use toys on your holiday card.

Gracie created a very elegant card using the theme.

I used a vintage image from The Graphics Fairy and
colored it with my Spectrum Noir markers to make it look aged.
Glitter cardstock, teal cardstock, black and white vellum and rhinestones
(I'm addicted to bling) finish the card quickly.  ~ Gracie

Anything Goes Friday #20

Today is a continuation of yesterday's tie dye technique.

All these cards are created by Theresa.

I used Stampin' Up ink refills and Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper for all of these examples.

You have to give this technique a try! It is so much fun and the results are never the same twice, even when you are blotting off onto the second piece of cardstock.

Thursday Technique #20

Today's technique challenge is tie dye.

Here is a video by Deb Valder that shows one way to achieve this look.

A little tip from us is to use a second piece of watercolor cardstock instead of a paper towel
when blotting the image and you'll have two card pieces instead of a pretty piece of paper towel and you won't have wasted any ink.

Here is Kathy's card using this great technique:
I used Tim Holtz watercolor paper, Stampin Up ink refills in Real Red and Basic Black.
The die that I used is Hexagon Hive thinlits.
The black embellishments are Bo Bunny Double Dot Jewels.
It took a few tries to get one that I was okay with,
but it was a card that took me out of my comfort zone, so that is good.  Have fun!  ~  Kathy

Card Sketch Wednesday #20

Today's sketch comes to us from Random Acts of Creativity.

Here is Denise's take on the sketch:

I used papers from the stack called "Dear Jane" by DCWV.
I used some fabric flower layers with a pearl in the middle.
I wouldn't normally have used a layout like this, especially with the flower
embellishment, so it stretched me.  I do like the result.  ~ Denise
It is good to stretch our creative muscles from time to time.  When we do the same thing over and over, we get into a creative rut and sometimes it is very difficult to climb out of.

Color Challenge Tuesday #20

Today's color challenge goes with all the rain a lot of the country has been having
the last few days.  The Design Team and I pray that you are safe and that you continue to
enjoy the blog and the cards that we bring you.

I used Ranger Distress Inks to create the background and to color the circle.
I used Black Soot, Pumice Stone, Weathered Wood and Picked Raspberries.
It's not exactly the same colors as the inspiration photo but same color families.

Clean & Simple Sunday #20

Today's challenge is to create a clean and simple summer birthday card.
Whether that means flip flops on the beach or ice cream in the park or sitting by the pool, create a card that screams summer to you.

Here's what Denise came up with:

I used green cardstock as the base then layered with strawberry paper
from the 6 x 6 pad Dear Lizzy Neapolitan.  I printed the sentiment on red cardstock
then cut the strawberry on my Cricut Expression.
I used the Expression because I can center the cut where I want it to be so that
the writing will be centered.  I added the "seeds" with a black marker.  ~ Denise

How cute is that?

Go have fun playing with summer.

Specialty Cards Saturday #19

Today's challenge is continuation of Thursday's technique challenge but using the diecuts as the card base instead of on the card.

Kathy has created for you two cards:
Here is the same card, one in brown and one "whitewashed".
I didn't have a  large enough die cut, so I used doilies and
backed them with paper to match my flower embellishment.   ~ Kathy

There are lots of videos on YouTube on how to create cards like this but we liked these two.

Anything Goes Friday #19 Guest Designer Alicia O'Bryant from Golden Goddess Designs

Welcome to Alicia, our guest designer this week. Alicia is a good friend of the
design team and is a wonderful multi-faceted crafter.
She does not only papercrafting, but jewelry and other wonderful things.

"Hi, I am Alicia and I am a Craftaholic.  I have been crafting since I was young.  My mother is  a very talented crafter so I inherited some of my love for creating.  It just makes me feel so good to accomplish a project.  Sometimes I spend days lamenting over an idea to bring it to life and sometimes I can whip something up in minutes.  I have been paper crafting for about 16 years, I also make beaded jewelry and various other crafts.  Card making is so much fun because I feel more free to use bulky, mixed media items that I wouldn't always use in a scrapbook.  In both mediums I try to venture outside the box but in the end I have a pretty classic style.

The card I have for you today is an example of being inspired by a new product.  In this case I acquired the metal embellishment on clearance at Michael's.  I knew I had the perfect stamp for it!  The papers are from The Paper Loft.  I have had those and the die cuts for a while but the studded Eiffel Tower just inspired me to pull out my older supplies again.  I love it when I can use up old stash while featuring something new!

Thanks so much to Theresa and the ladies for having me as a Guest Designer today!"

Click on the photo to be taken to Alicia's blog for more wonderful inspiration.

Isn't this card just gorgeous?
Huge thanks to Alicia for being with us today.

Thursday Technique #19

Today's challenge is to create a card using a diecut as your focal point.

You can make a card out of two of pretty much any diecut simply by scoring the top or side of the second diecut and adhering only up to the score mark.

Let's see what Denise came up with:
I cut this out using my Explore and the cartridge Life's a Beach.  The paper is from Echo Park. I used some buttons I had on hand to embellish the flip-flops.  ~ Denise

Theresa's card is next:

This diecut came to me through a swap we did on a Facebook group called Ohio Cricut Lovers and Papercrafters.
If you live in Ohio and would like to become a member, we would love to have you.
OCL hosts monthly swaps, virtual and in-person crops as well as other fabulous things.

Now about the card, I used two sheets of patterned paper from a 6x6 pad, I inked the edges with Quick Quotes Chalk Ink in brown and the sentiment is stamped in the same ink.

Pull out your diecut machine and have fun.  Create a card using a diecut as the focal point, see where it takes you.

Color Challenge Tuesday #19

Today's color challenge is near and dear to Theresa's heart, having raised peacocks on the farm while growing up they hold a special place for her.

Here is Theresa's card based on the colors:
I own a peacock stamp set, but do you think I could find it when making this card. You know it...no idea where it is.
Anyway I used Ranger Distress Inks in several colors as well as a Heidi Swapp Color Mist to create this card.
I really like how it turned out.  Hope you do too.

Up next is Kathy, with her take on the color challenge:

For the background I used Stampin' Up cardstock Neutrals in a putty color.  The banners were cut out of Bo Bunny  Hello Sunshine Dots paper.  The center circle is from SU cardstock Brights in turquoise.  The stamp is Fiskars - Petals from Scratch.  The ink is SU Close to Cocoa.

As you can see both designers took the color challenge in a different direction.

We'd love to see what you can do with it.

Mistletoe Monday #19

Today's challenge is to create a holiday card with a snowman or snow women or family. LOL

Be creative and make it your own.

First up is Theresa with her snowman diecut card.

This card was created using a plain white snowman diecut. I believe it was an Elison diecut, but who knows it has been in my stash for ages.  I used Copic markers to create the shadows, eyes, nose and buttons and to color the arms and hat.  I then heavily applied clear Wink of Stella over the entire diecut.
It is applied using foam tape over the snowflake patterned paper, which comes from a 4x6 mat stack.
Up next is Denise's card:
I cut the snowman using my Explore and the Quilted Christmas cartridge. I didn't use the face from the cut, but instead used a stamp from Peachy Keen. I love those stamps of faces and have a some different sets.  The paper is from Carta Bella. ~ Denise

Get snowy today!
