January Card a Day Challenge - Mistletoe Monday

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to another day of challenges at the Card a Day Challenge blog. You can find the blog on Facebook and I encourage you to join the group and the challenges! The theme this month is Birthdays and the color scheme is blue, silver and white. Today is Mistletoe Monday, and here is my card:

This is a 6x6 mixed media card made from a kit from My Creative Scrapbook. This was their December kit. You can go to their website and take a look at the many kits they offer. The colors in this card are subtle and beautiful, just like snowfall, with flowers framing the sentiment that says "Pretty Little Christmas". This reminds me so much of the beauty in January when the snow is falling gently and everything is white with a hint of color.

See you tomorrow!

January 2019 Card a Day Challenge - Sweet & Simple Sunday

Hi everyone,

Welcome to a new year of challenges at the Card a Day Challenge blog! You can find this blog on Facebook, and I encourage you to join the group and the challenges! This month's theme is winter birthdays and the colors and blue, silver, and white. Here is my card for today:

Who says CAS has to have a lot of white space? This card has lots of space in shades of blue, white and silver distress ink, with just a pop of orange and brown to frame that hello sentiment from Honey Bee stamps. This would make a great masculine card. Challenge yourself to do a CAS card using a different color for the background!

See you tomorrow!

December Card a Day Challenge - Scene It Saturday

Hi everyone,

Today is the last day of 2018 Card a Day Challenges! Just a side note that I will be back in January doing more weekly challenges, and I hope to see you participate along with me! So, today is Scene It Saturday, and I decided to think out of the box for my scene card. Here it is:

This is my version of a scene card. There is a sun ray in the background and greenery in the foreground. I masked off the card stock to create a rectangular shape. Then I placed my sun ray stencil over the masked area and used pink shades of ink to create the beautiful sky with rays shining forth. Then I stamped the leaves (I don't remember where I got these, sorry, but plenty of companies have them) in black to give a silhouette look. I removed the mask (carefully!) and added my sentiment from Gina K Designs. I placed my finished piece of black and pink card stock and that was it! I made some of these as sympathy cards using yellow ink and they went over quite well at a recent craft show I attended.

Thanks for joining me this week guys! I wish you all a happy, healthy holiday!

December Card a Day Challenge - Freestyle Friday

Hi everyone,

Today is Freestyle Friday, where Designer can choose the challenge! Again, focusing on gift giving ideas, I created this one:

These are Mama Elephant book marker dies and coordinating stamp sets. What a clever idea! I created ones for boys and girls, and the picture shows you what the front and the back of the book marker looks like, there's even a spot for them to write their name! This would make a nice gift along with a new book.

December Card a Day Challenge - 3D Thursday

Hi everyone,

Welcome to 3D Thursday! I am focused on gift giving ideas for any occasion, and this one is a GREAT idea for kids! Here it is;

My good friend Lisa gave me this idea to create Color Me card kits for the kiddos! I found some pre-made coloring cards from SSS, attached them to a card base, added envelopes and a few crayons, and then packaged them so they look like they were bought in the store! Lisa you're a genius!!! These would make great stocking stuffers!

December Card a Day Challenge - WOW Wednesday

Hi everyone,

Welcome to Card a Day Challenge for December. Today is WOW Wednesday, where we jazz up an older card. I decided to jazz up the set of note cards that I showed you on Sunday. Here is the jazzed up version:

All I did to the pretty note cards was add a butterfly, sentiment, and some sequins. That's it! It doesn't take much to change up an old card, so get your stuff out and re-create it with some changes!

December Card a Day Challenge - Technique Tuesday

Hi everyone

Welcome to another day of Card a Day Challenge. Today is Technique Tuesday, and here is my card:

I chose Thank You cards since we'll likely be sending those out in January! So you'll need some glittery, festive ones! This is an older technique that is a favorite of mine. I used Nuvo glimmer paste with a stencil on both white and black paper. The look is so unique depending on if you use light or dark colored paper. It's so easy to do and makes a great background. The sentiments are from CP Designs.

December Card a Day Challenge - Mistletoe Monday

Hi everyone,

Welcome to day 2 of Card a Day Challenge for December! Today is Mistletoe Monday, and here is my card:

I had to make a card for baby's 1st Christmas and she wanted lots and lots of blue. So I went with Concord & 9th snowflakes, distressed inks for the background, and some stickers from a scrapbook kit that I have. I am really happy with how this turned out! Oh, I had to color Santa with my Copics because he was too pale compared to all that brilliant blue. And Santa needs to stand out! Now he looks much better!

Here is my card for today:

This card is from a set of note cards that I made as a gift.
You can see the boxed set beneath the card. The stamp is from Concord & 9th and the technique is a type of inlaid die cutting that really gives a card some dimension! Note cards make a great gift for just about anyone and for any occasion!

See you tomorrow for another Card a Day Challenge! Go visit their blog and leave the designers some love, please!

Scene It Saturday 51-2018

It's Scene It Saturday!  I really enjoyed making today's card.

Here is my card:

I really thought long on how I wanted to make my last card for the year.  I thought about using stamps; I thought about using die cuts.  I opted for a more vintage look.

The image is a download from The Graphics Fairy.  I printed it on Solar White Neenah card stock.  I tore the edges and placed the image on a small panel of gold glitter card stock.  Next I placed a simple white doily on a white card stock panel then added my image.  I placed three glitter poinsettias from Recollection to frame the image.  I added a small red bow, a stick pin I made using "jewels" and connectors sticking it down in the middle poinsettia.  I added the large silver and red rhinestones and finished it off by tucking a small bit of ribbon in the corner.  The panel was placed on red card stock for a card base.

I have really enjoyed making cards for you this year.  I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! ~ Gracie

Freestyle Friday 51-2018

Oh my goodness!  Christmas is coming so soon!  Today I created another Christmas card for Freestyle Friday.

Here is my card:

Glitter card stock just screams holidays!  Today's card is no exception!  I started the card with a green glitter card stock panel from Co'ordinations.  I attached the panel to a red glitter card stock base.  I die cut the sentiment using dies from Peachy Cheap.  I added the silver card stock to help highlight the sentiment.  I added two red glitter poinsettias from Recollections attached with glue dots.  The card was finished easy peasy!  I hope your holidays are blessed... ~ Gracie

Thursday in 3D 51-2018

It's Thursday in 3D!  There are so many ways to make 3D Christmas cards - a box card, a bendy card, an easel...  Today I chose to make a Christmas ornament using directions from Jennifer Maguire.

Here is the video for inspiration:

And here is my ornament:

The ornament is really easy to make.  I die cut 9 circles from white card stock with one final circle of blue glitter card stock. I also die cut 3 acetate circles.

I sponged the background using Distress Oxide inks Peacock Feathers and Faded Jeans.  After adhering 6 circles to one another I adhered the background.  I then added light blue seed beads and topped the 6 circles with acetate.  I placed 2 tree groups stamped with light green ink with a snowbank to the acetate.  I then added 3 circles and put teal blue seed beads with the second layer and covered the layer with acetate.  I adhered one more layer of trees stamped with blue ink and covered the bottom with another snow bank.  I topped the circles with another layer of acetate.  I finished the ornament with a circle of blue glitter card stock and blue ribbon.  I also covered the back with blue glitter card stock.

I'm pretty sure I will be making more! ~ Gracie

Wow Wednesday 51-2018

It's Wednesday and time to crank up the volume!  Today I chose the card I created on Tuesday to wow it.

Here is the card before wow:

Here is my card today:

I created my card using Dazzling Diamonds.  Today I took the card apart and mounted the panel on green glitter card stock to match the green trees.  I changed out my card base to a teal to match the blue trees and sentiment.  I couldn't stop there because I am a bling kind of girl!  I added rhinestones to look like snow.  I think the added color brought out the inked background.

Now it's your turn to crank up the volume!  Join us tomorrow for Thursday in 3D! ~ Gracie

Technique Tuesday 51-2018

Hello again and Happy Tuesday!  This month the technique we use is our choice!  I really like glitter; I like bling.  Today I chose to make a Christmas card using Dazzling Diamonds from Stampin' Up.

This is the link to my inspiration:

And here is my card:

I enjoyed making this card - even though there is glitter everywhere!  I started my card by applying Distress Oxide inks to the background using Wilted Violet and Peacock Feathers and stamped trees in the background with blue and green ink.  I lightly spritzed the background with water to create a snowing effect (I didn't realize I could skip that step - you can't see it after the glitter).  I applied Sticky adhesive (sheet).  I then sprinkled the panel with Dazzling Diamonds.  I also adhered glitter to the "snow banks" then lightly sponged Peacock Feathers on the edges of the snow (the snow kind of got lost and the ink helped highlight it.  I die cut the trees and the sentiment using glitter card stock.  The panel is adhered to a light blue card base.  Christmas Blessings! ~ Gracie

Mistletoe Monday 51-2018

Happy Holidays!  Our theme this month is winter holidays.

Here is my card:

This card was so easy to create.  i was too lazy to bust out my tree dies so I used the build a wreath die set I used on yesterday's card to make my trees.  I cut out the branches for the wreath and snipped them into to make a tree.  The snow is white glitter card stock.  The snowflakes are from another unbranded set using light blue, bright blue and white glitter card stock.  I attached them to a silver panel.  If you know me it just needed some bling!  I added clear heat set rhinestones from Silhouette to the center of the snowflakes and scattered over the card.  The sentiment is a die cut from Peachy Cheap.  I used the light blue glitter card stock to create the card base.  Luckily, we don't see snow very often in Mississippi so I probably won't be seeing a white Christmas! ~ Gracie

Clean & Simple Sunday 51-2018

Hello and Happy December!  It's Gracie this week bringing you my fun Holiday cards.  I love Christmas!!!  Today's card is clean & simple (so hard for me to do lol).

Here is my card:

For me this is clean & simple!  I started with a unbranded build a wreath die set and cut each branch three times using green glitter card stock from Co'ordinations.  It was really difficult to place a red glitter brad in the center of nine pieces of glitter card stock!  The sentiment is also an unbranded die from Peachy Cheap.  I cut it from silver glitter card stock.  I popped the wreath on a red glitter card stock panel using Thermoweb dimensional glue dots.  They actually are very thick and very sticky and hold glitter card stock well.  I attached the sentiment with glue.  The panel is attached to a silver glitter card stock base.  It's very simple but I think the glitter gives a big impact! ~ Gracie

Scene It Saturday - 50-2018

WOW! This week went by fast. It's already my last day here as the designer. I hope that I've been able to inspire you in some way.

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For Scene it Saturday, the theme is to create a scene card.

Here's my card

On a scrap piece of shiny silver cardstock, I added alcohol inks (stream and citrus) with an alcohol ink applicator and felt. I placed a few drops of each color onto the felt and “dabbed” it many times on the shiny cardstock until the cardstock was covered. Once the alcohol inks dried, I used Memory Box Pine Border Background die to die cut the trees. I also die cut the outline with silver shimmer cardstock with Memory Box Pine Border Outline die. Using a glue pen, I adhered the outline to the trees background. I find it very challenging to photograph shiny paper. Here's a close-up where you can see the true colors of the trees.

I found some tone on tone printed paper for the background and stamped the sentiment from Hero Arts Color Layering Holly stamp set with Hero Arts Leaf Green ink.

It's been fun to have you here this week. Wishing you and yours, the very best of this holiday season.

Freestyle Friday - 50-2018

Hi! Nice to see you here. It's Sue and I''m this week's designer.

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For Freestyle Friday, the challenge is to create whatever I want using either the technique or the color scheme for the month or both. Well, we didn’t have a color scheme for this month, so I’m taking some liberties here and used some muted winter-y colors.

Here's my card

For my card, I created a background by stamping snowflakes using both Hero Arts Snowflake 4x6 stamp set and The Alley Way Snow Daze stamp set with Hero Arts Soft Sky, Soft Pool and Mint Julep inks. I trimmed the panel to 3.25” x 2.5” and matted it with a light teal cardstock. For the sentiment, I used Simon Says STAMP’s Deco Tree dies (which includes the “merry Christmas” dies). I applied some Wink of Stella to the sentiment  for a bit of sparkle. I also popped up the focal panel with some fun foam for added dimension.

Here's a close-up

See you tomorrow for the last of my seven cards.

Thursday in 3D - 50-2018

Hi! Hope you're finding some inspiration with my cards this week. I have another card today.

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For Thursday in 3D, the challenge is to make cards that are 3D.

Here's my card

I again searched through Pinterest for 3D card ideas and found the “bridge card”. I started with Echo Park’s Winter Park Snowstorm patterned paper. I cut it into several  rectangles and used it as the background for my card. On the “bridge”, I stamped the sentiment from CAS-ual Friday’s Snowy Sayings stamp set using Hero Arts Soft Granite ink. Using white shimmer paper, I die cut the snowflake, using Memory Box’s Bristol Snowflake die. To complete the card, I added a rhinestone in the center of the snowflake for a bit of sparkle.

Here's another view from above

Wow Wednesday - 50-2018

It's Hump Day - I'm halfway through my week as the designer here at Card A Day Challenge.

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For WOW Wednesday, the challenge is to turn up the volume on a card.

Here's my card

I started with Sunday’s card.  To turn up the volume, I die cut a snowflake from shimmery white cardstock with Simon Says STAMP’s Alexis Snowflake die. Also, I added a “nest” of silver thread to add more shine.

Here's a close-up

Thanks for stopping by. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

Technique Tuesday - 50-2018

Welcome back. It's Sue and I'm the designer this week. So happy to see you here.

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For Technique Tuesday, the challenge is to use a technique of my choosing.

Here's my card

I selected heat embossing on vellum – here’s a video which explains the process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6r6TwZnUgg. I used Simon Says STAMP’s Poinsettia stamp set, which I heat embossed with white embossing powder and then fussy cut. The sentiment is from The Ton’s Holiday Flourish stamp set, stamped onto a scrap strip of natural cardstock with Hero Arts Cup O’ Joe ink. The patterned strip is Basic Grey’s Figgy Pudding patterned paper. I used a kraft background to give the card a vintage feel. To complete the card, I added some faux pearls in the center of the flower.

Mistletoe Monday - 50-2018

It's crazy how quickly time is flying by. In two weeks, it'll be Christmas Eve Day. Are you ready?

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For Mistletoe Monday, the challenge is to make a Christmas/Holiday card. It’s great that the monthly theme and the daily challenge are aligned!

Here's my card

I felt like making a colorful card. With my The Crafters Workshop Ornaments stencil and distress inks (fossilized amber, peacock feathers, wilted violet, twisted citron, abandoned coral), applied with ink blending tools, I created the card front panel. I matted the panel with black cardstock to frame the panel. For the sentiment, I used Paper Smooches Christmas Sampler stamp set on a gold banner, which I popped up with dimensionals.

Thanks for stopping by. Hope to see you tomorrow when I'll have a new card for you to see.

Sweet and Simple Sunday - 50-2018

Hi Friends! It's Sue here and I'll be this week's designer.

The theme for December is winter holidays (Christmas, Chanukah, New Years).  For Sweet and Simple Sunday, the challenge is to create a clean and simple card using this month’s theme.

Here's my card

I pulled out my Sizzix Textured Impressions embossing folder – Snowflakes and embossed an A2 sized piece of white cardstock. I cut a 1.75” strip for my card. I matted it with pale blue cardstock. I stamped the sentiment, from Catherine Pooler Designs’ Here We Come A-Caroling stamp set with Hero Arts Soft Sky ink.

Here's a close-up

Thanks for dropping by. Hoping to see you tomorrow.

Scene It Saturday 49-2018

I tried no-line water coloring for this scene.

I used a stamp from Unity called Christmas Magic and stamped with a pale shade of Distress Ink on watercolor paper.  I used some new Arteza watercolor brush pens.  I applaud those who master this technique.  I am not completely happy with it, but did like the way the tree turned out, so I decided to keep it.  The sentiment covers a place that was a boo-boo.  The background paper is Cozy by Authentique and I matted it with matching red cardstock.  This is one technique that will take more practice, but can look really neat done right. - Denise

Freestyle Friday 49-2018

Here is a card that references my daughter's favorite Christmas movie.

This cute little elf stamp is by Unity Stamp Company and is called Elf Christmas.  The sentiment is from another set called Full of Merry.  I stamped both with Versafine Blank ink and then heat embossed them.  I like doing that because it helps keep my alcohol markers within the lines on images like this.  I also used colors on the sentiment to make the words stand out.  The paper is from  a 6 x 6 paper pad by The Paper Studio called Furry and Bright. A few small red rhinestones added some sparkle.  I will send this to my daughter to let her know we will watch Elf together when we go to see her this Christmas. - Denise

Thursday in 3D 49-2018

I think I made a shaker card from this same image last year, but couldn't resist another one.

I think this stamp from Unity called Magical as Snow is perfect for a shaker card with "snow" in it.  I paper pieced the coat, hat and mittens with paper from Lawn Fawn called Knit Picky (also used for the front.  I used seed beads and Glitter Shakers in the shaker part.  These are easy to do and I like to reuse plastic packaging for the window part. - Denise

Wow wednesday 49-2018

For my WOW Wednesday card I added a little extra to my Sunday card.

I still wanted a fairly simple look to go with the quilt feel, so I just added a star covered with Wink of Stella at the top of the tree.  To the presents I added bows made of baker's twine.  I think it added just the right touch. - Denise

Technique Tuesday 49-2018

For my technique, I chose a split panel that makes two cards at a time.

There is a wonderful video showing how to do this by Jennifer McGuire found here.  Unity Stamp company did a live video using this technique too which inspired me to try it with one of my new Unity kits called Whatever Keeps You Warm.  Using a stamp positioning tool makes this a simple card to do.  I cut one piece of white cardstock and one piece of red cardstock each to fit the front of a card base.  I picked the red to match the red Altenew ink I was using.  Once you position the flower in the corner you stamp, then flip the paper 180 degrees and stamp again.  I did this for both pieces and heat embossed both using Versamark and white embossing powder on the red cardstock.  For the white cardstock I used the Altenew red ink and clear embossing powder.  Since the Altenew ink is a dye ink, I put Versamark on the stamp before inking it up with the red ink. I added a sentiment from Unity's Cheery Christmas.  I stacked both sheets and cut them at the same time on my paper cutter. You glue one red top with the white bottom on a card base and reverse that for the other card. I few snowflakes cut with a punch finished the card. - Denise

Mistletoe Monday 49-2018

I did a very simple card for this Mistletoe Monday

I stamped this wreath image from Unity October 2017 SMAK kit called Winter Wild with green ink on a kraft card base.  I placed some red bling on for berries.  A sentiment from Unity Winter Blessing and the card was done. - Denise

Sweet & Simple Sunday 49-2018

Welcome to new challenges for December.  This month we will be doing holiday cards and this month we get to choose our own technique.

I will start Monday out with a one layer card for my Clean and Simple Sunday.

I used some unique stamps by Unity Stamp Company.  They are designed by Ann Butler and are simple shapes of squares, triangles and rectangles with various patterns on them.  They are unique in that there is no lip and the design goes to the very edge of the stamp.  You build designs up like quilt patterns.  I love quilts and was excited to see how I could put some of these stamps together to make something.  I used Gingham, Leaves All Over, and Double Diamonds.  I sketched out what I wanted on graph paper to make sure it would fit on a card and used the inch squares and triangles along with the rectangle.  The sentiment is from another Unity kit. My sketch is below.  This is certainly easier than sewing, lol. - Denise

Card a Day Challenge for November - Scene It Saturday

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the last day of Card a Day Challenge for November! Thanks for hanging with me this week! Today is Scene It Saturday which, as you know by now, is not my strength as a card-maker. But I've been creative in my approach (do I get credit for creativity?). Here is my card for today:

I went with a deer in the woods theme. I used a birch tree die cut from SSS and then embossed it with Wanderlust powder so it looked like the trees were filled with freshly fallen snow. The background sky was done using CP Inks in the gorgeous shade of Suede Shoes, and I added dots of snow with my Posca pen. Next I die cut the two deer and cardinal, and colored them. I put a sequin over the deer eyes and finished with my sentiment "silent night, holy night" from Concord & 9th Very Merry sentiments. That's it!

I want to wish all of you a blessed holiday filled with God's love and peace. To those that are suffering this holiday, please know that you are not alone. We all stand together in this life.

Colleen
