Color Challenge Tuesday #21-2016

Today's Color Challenge:

My inspiration for this card was the color palette with bright, fun colors. The bear peeking up from the corner was actually not planned! I had some cardstock that I was punching 1" circles from and noticed it looked like a character. I added the circles I just punched for the ears, white circles for the eyes, and a black circle punch for the nose. I ended up with a sweet little bear! In order to incorporate all the colors for this challenge, I used my tiny heart hole punch to make confetti for the backdrop. I finished off with my Lawn Fawn stamp for the sentiment. ~Maranda
The supplies I used on this project were:
Cardstock (in color challenge colors)     Recollections Glue Runner
Fiskars Paper Trimmer     Xyron Sticker Maker
Wiggly Eyes     Zots Glue Dots
Lawn Fawn Sentiment Stamp      Acrylic Stamp Block
Momento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad      Glossy Accents
1" Circle Punch       Small Heart Punch
Uniball Signo White Gel Pen

Pop dots, Stampin up What I love stamp set and perfectly penned, Stampin Up markers Island Indigo, and Bermuda bay, Tim Holtz markers tumbled glass, peeled paint, and forest Moss, American crafts marker cricket.  Stampin Up stamp pad certain celery, Olive colored, and white cardstock.

I stamped three flowers directly onto the white cardstock,  I then stamped two more onto white scrap paper.  I fussy cut out the two flowers and put them between the three flowers using pop dots.  I must admit... I did not care for the colors I was given,  but I think it turned out okay. ~Mindy

I have an obsession with 6 x 6 paper pads and have a lot of them, so I was able to find one with colors close to the challenge called Now and Then by My Mind’s Eye. I have also loved quilts since I was small and decided to do a pattern called Cathedral Window inspired by some cards on Pinterest.  It involves a circle and turning back the edges on for sides.  I tried to do it by hand, but had a hard time getting them even, so I turned to my Explore.  I started with a square in a size that would fit 3 across on my card.  I then placed a circle around it with a size that just fit around the four corners.  I attached the two together and made the square to be scored and the circle to be cut. I cut twelve total circles from 6 different papers which were double sided patterns.  It worked well since I could just fold on the score lines and they came out even sizes.  I folded them so that there was one of each pattern in the center and one for the edges.  At that point I just glued them to the card front and then glued the edges of each circle down.  The next time, I will reverse that order since I think they will be easier to place without gaps between them.  The sentiment is from a set called Material Girl, but I don’t know who the manufacturer is.  – Denise Sayers

Mistletoe Monday #21-2016

Today's Mistletoe Monday Challenge:
Use a metallic as the only ink/embossing powder for the design.
Use a red/burgundy card base.

My favorite holiday to make cards for is Christmas - so I was excited for this challenge! Since I've been doing more embossing lately, I thought it would be fun to incorporate an embossed background. It's so much fun designing custom backgrounds! For this card, I focused solely on the backdrop as the "star" of the show, while keeping the rest of the card simple. ~Maranda
The supplies I used on this project were:
Core'dinations A2 Ivory Card Base    Red Cardstock
White Cardstock      Round Edges Punch
VersaMark Watermark Resist Ink Pad      WOW! Embossing Powder in Gold
Recollections Heat Gun for Embossing     Fiskars Paper Trimmer
Gold Sequins     Zots Glue Dots
Baker's Twine     Recollections Glue Runner
Scissors      WOW! Sentiment Stamp
Acrylic Stamp Block      Momento Tuxedo Black Ink Pad

Gold embossing powder, cream cardstock, gold foil paper, red cardstock, stampin up punches scallop oval and small oval, versamark stamp pad,  stampin up teeny tiny wishes, and a pointsetta background stamp from North Woods Rubber Stamp CO.

I embossed the image, and greeting on both cards.  I used the gold foil paper as an accent. It is basically the same card, with the background colors switched around. ~Mindy

I cut a stencil on my Cricut Explore using medium stencil material that I purchased at Hobby Lobby in their art department.  I cut it from a cartridge called A Quilted Christmas.  I ended up having to cut it using the intricate cuts for cardstock because of all the tiny details and it cut perfectly then.  I put it over a burgundy cardstock and sponged on Viva Décor 3-D stamp paint in gold.  I hadn’t used this paint for a little while and when I opened it up, I found out that it was starting to dry out.  I misted it with some water and opened up the other colors to do the same thing and extend their life.  I then sponged some of the same paint on part of a stamp I had since I only had room for the word Joy on the card.  I mounted on a mat of patterned paper and it was done. – Denise Sayers

Denise was kind enough to share a pic of the stencil she made.
If you have a diecutting machine, don't be afraid to make a stencil or two...
or maybe a whole drawer full.

Whether you make a single use stencil/mask out of vinyl or cardstock or like Denise
purchase plastic stencil material and make a reusable one, they are so much fun to play with.
In fact, CADC Blog will be bringing you an entire month of stencil play in July.
I hope you are as excited about it as we are.

Clean and Simple Sunday #21-2016

Today's Clean & Simple Challenge
Chalkboard Cards

Here at CADC Blog we are starting our June schedules today and that means
we've got fun and surprises for you.

Surprise #1...Guest Designers

We have two for you this week.

Hi… I’m Maranda!
I am a happily married 30-something who loves crafting!
I’ve enjoyed art since a very young age and always wanted to be an artist when I grew up.
I guess I’m living that dream out, in a way, after all!! I love all types of crafts – but I’d say my favorite is paper crafting; namely, card-making. It’s a creative hobby for me that makes me happy – and I love to make others happy by giving them a card which I made with love!

Here's my card for this C&S blackboard challenge:

For this simple card, I used a pre-made sentiment from the Amy Tangerine cardstock collection and cut it to fit the card base. I embellished with the green chalkboard-colored paper, of which I inked the edges. The green color reminded me of old school chalkboards, and the black chalkboard look with the "Love" sentiment looked like the trendy look in chalkboard home decor. So I mixed the two for an "old meets new" look! After everything was ready, I adhered it all together. Super simple and easy!
The supplies I used on this project were:
Amy Tangerine Cardstock
Recollections Glue Runner
Stampabilities Black Pigment Ink Pad
Fiskars Paper Trimmer

My name is Mindy Karcher.  I have been happily married for 18 1/2 years.  I started scrapbooking about 18 years ago.  I have been making cards for 10 years.  I am a paper crafter addict..  I get my inspiration from everywhere.  Sometimes I just need to drive down the street, or look at a tissue box. I never know when an idea is going to pop into my head.

Black and Red cardstock, white embossing powder, versamark stamp pad, stamping buddy, red gems, stampin up flowering flourishes, and what I love stamp sets.

I embossed the flowers and the thank you.  I cut I piece of chipboard to trace for the lines.  I added the red cardstock and gems to bring in a little color.  I loved making this card.

I have a whole pack of chalkboard paper from DWCV, so I choose the green color for this challenge and stamped it with CTMH ink called Daisy White,  The cake stamp was from CTMH called Belated Birthday Celebrations and the sentiments and curlicues are from a set called Officially Old by Hampton Art. – Denise Sayers

Well, I have to say that I think we are off to a great start for June!
Maranda, Mindy and Denise all graduated with honors for this challenge.

Inspiration Saturday #20-2016

Today's Inspiration Saturday Tic Tac Toe Challenge:

Did this week's DT members follow the rest of the designers and
choose the last column as their inspiration?

Let's find out.

This was a hard challenge - but I decided to do red & blue, element repeated in threes & birthday…
so I used a cute birthday sticker, and 3 blue candle stickers. ~Jennifer

Well Jennifer strayed from the group and picked the bottom row.

What did Theresa do?

Yep, I stuck to the same column as most of the DT.

This was a really hard Tic Tac Toe board to work with for me.
I started with the ribbon, since I rarely, as in almost never, use ribbon on my cards,
I have some, but not a huge stash of it. This was the only yellow ribbon I had in my stash that
didn't have words on it.  For the first card I used Ranger Distress Inks in Hickory Smoke and Pumice Stone for the stenciled area and Versa Mark and some really old Martha Stewart yellow embossing powder. I used my MISTI and stamped and embossed several times.

Since there was a tiny bit of ribbon left, I made a second very simple card using
the ribbon and Brutus Monroe Platinum embossing powder.  ~Theresa

Anything Goes - C.A.S.E A Card Friday #20-2016

Today's C.A.S.E A Card Challenge:

My first attempt at Bird Crazy by Tim Holtz.
I used his distress crayons - they’re so fun to use!
I used arccraft wood paper and stamped on it and colored it in with the zig kuratake pens.
These colors also work great for Tuesday’s challenge! ~Jennifer

I started with the checkerboard card, thinking I'd just do a a few rows of the squares using
the MFT Small Checkerboard stencil and Ranger Distress Inks, then I smeared it at the bottom and so
a few more rows got added. The globe is actually the sticker that goes on the stamp from my Going Global stamp set from Stampin' Up. The sentiment is from the same set.

Then I got out a Stampin' Up stencil (from the Happy Patterns set, retired) that included the happy and dots, the Just Be is from another Stampin' Up set called Crazy About You (#137137).
If you don't have this set, you need it! The sentiments in it cover just about every occasion and it's simple block font makes it perfect for masculine cards.  It also includes a couple of cute flowers and leaves. ~Theresa

Technique Thursday #20-2016

Today's Technique Challenge:
Bokeh Technique

Here's a video to get you started on this fun challenge

I love Bokeh and have never done it - so this was a good challenge.
I couldn’t find my sponge to use so I used a giant brush (haven’t used that in a while) and luckily I had some chalk ink & some round stamps! It’s amazing what you find when you go through your stash!  I love the sentiment… this will be great to use when giving some one a gift card! ~Jennifer

I love this technique! It's so much fun to do.  I used Ranger distress inks to
create the backgrounds then added the Bokeh effect with a stamp set and ink daubers using
white craft ink. ~Theresa

Card Sketch Wednesday #20-2016

Today's Card Sketch Challenge:

I used Tip Top Taupe by Stampin' Up to make the card base and the same color ink
for the sentiments, which came from the CAS-ual Friday's All About You
stamp set in the latest SOA collection.  The floral is from an old SU set.
It was stamped in Versa Mark ink and then embossed with Ranger Liquid Platinum
embossing powder.  I used the same ink and ep on the layer behind the focal panel.
I love how this turned out! I think this one will be a repeater for sure. ~Theresa

I finally got the rose stamp from Stampin Up & the matching die - and I wanted to try out the gelatos with it.  I switched the side of the flower but it works better that way. ~Jennifer

Color Challenge Tuesday #20-2016

Today's Color Challenge:

I don’t use yellow often because I don’t like it… but I used my zig kuratake pens on the turtle stamps and the sea horse and used my new gelatos to color the ocean…  I couldn’t remember how they did it at scrapbook expo (where I bought the stamp) but I like how it turned out! ~Jennifer

I used Stampin' Up Tip Top Taupe cardstock for the card base and used my
Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers to color on the globe stamp from Stampin' Up Going Global set.
I then used a waterbrush to slightly blur the lines and to even out the green.
The sentiment is stamped in Hello Honey Stampin' Up Ink from the same stamp set. ~Theresa

Mistletoe Monday #20-2016

This month's
(that's right we are going to do the same challenge for
MM all month long, as we want to feature all the DT members with this one.)
 Mistletoe Monday Challenge
is to create a holiday card featuring NON-traditional colors.
So no, red and green or blue and white.

It's the last week of May so that means this is the last day of this challenge,
let's see what the last two DT members came up with.

It was really hard to think of doing a Christmas card without the normal colors (red, green, blue or white)… Until I remembered I had this really cool Sizzix basketweave star die that I hadn’t used before.  I cut it out with double sided copper paper (since I think it still looks elegant) and then used glue dots to hold it together… And then used gems to dress it up.  I added a ribbon on top - that way the recipient could put the ornament on their tree if they wanted to! ~Jennifer

What a cool card and gift in one! Way to go Jennifer, thinking outside the box.

What do all these supplies have to do with a holiday card?

They turn into this...

I used a rainbow of sorts of Stampin' Up inks and stamp &
Neat & Tangled die from  from the holiday SOA collection
to create my non-traditional colored holiday card.
The mat and diecut are from a piece of Ranger Distress Paper.
* Hint * save $ and paper by diecutting from the center of your mat piece
no one will know it's not a solid piece and you save $ by saving paper. ~Theresa

Clean and Simple Sunday #20-2016

Today's Clean and Simple Challenge
create a card with a house or building on it.

This challenge really sent me for a loop.

I don't have any stamp sets that have a house or a building. My daughter had my Cricut at
college at the time of the creating the cards for this week, so I turned to my giant stash of
stuff to find something in hopes of making this card.

I participate in a few swap groups and other the years have collected quite a drawer full of
diecuts from my swaps.
Well, since I rarely throw anything out, I was lucky enough to find the makings for this card.

I started with Ranger Distress Inks and created the night sky background.
I then added mists of plain water and Perfect Pearls Mist.
I added the diecut house with moon and the bat and added Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush Pen to the black and purple elements.
For the inside I used a Heidi Swapp Color Mist in grey
and again used Wink of Stella to add to the sentiment.
The sentiment and monsters were also in my stash.
Not sure who sent them to me, but I hope they like how they ended up being used. ~Theresa

Let's see what Jennifer came up with for this challenge...

When I thought of including a building it made me think of these art impressions stamps that I love…. I bought a bunch of them at scrapbook expo and love doing them.  You color them with watercolor pens & then go over the stamped image with a wet paintbrush.  I love the way they come out!  I think vineyards are very pretty…. so I love the way these stamps look!  ~Jennifer

Well you can't get much different from those two cards.
We'd love to see what you do with the challenge.

PS: We've got lots of new talent coming your way in June and July.
Can't wait for you to see the amazing things these guest (and possibly future DT members)
have for you!

Inspiration Saturday #19-2016

Today's Inspiration Saturday Tic Tac Toe Challenge:

Did this week's DT members follow the rest of the designers and
choose the last column as their inspiration?

Let's find out.

I used my SSS (Simon Says Stamp) monthly card kit for this card. I colored it with my distress inks
and finished it off with some sequins from the kit.
More information on my blog www.craftconfectionery.com ~Denise Soffa

I used a gray striped card stock over yellow and added paper flowers from
Eyelet Outlet at Mega Meet. The suns were purchased at Michaels in a package of about 24 to a pack.  My ribbon came from a grab bag of ribbon I bought on ebay a very long time ago. ~Anna

Well so far, they've all picked the same 3 things, tune in next Saturday to see if the trend holds.

Technique Thursday #19-2016

Today's Technique Thursday Challenge is
the Tent Topper Card

Here's a VIDEO to get you started making these cuties.

Thursdays technique was to stamp on a shape and attach it to a "Tent" card.
Well I don't really have stamps like the one in the video so I used the drawing / writing feature on the Cricut to create the design on the heart using a black pen. When finished it looked like I had stamped the image on the paper. I then took my Prima colored pencils and colored the heart.  I thought it was a bit flat so I used my clear Wink of Stella and went over the pencil and when I did POOF it blended in the pencil lines together like a water color. Again I used the Cricut writing feature for the tag. ~Anna

Alternate challenge: Step Cards

I used my silhouette to cut this card out and colored it with distress inks and added some glitter.

Color Challenge Tuesday #19-2016

Today's Color Challenge:

I used a pretty brown and pink polka dot paper from my stash added some pink ribbon and
brown wood buttons.  I then used the writing feature on the cricut to cut out a tag.  ~Anna

I used color my world from Wplus9 on arches watercolor paper with my Daniel Smith watercolors. I used splatters to finish it off and then I used some glossy accents to finish off the panel.
