One Stamp Set Saturday 39-2017

Today's prompt is to use the Black Emboss Resist technique with the same stamp set.

I just got a new stamp set from Hampton Arts - Eat, Drink & Be Scary.  Using black ink was perfect for this set!  I stamped the sentiment and spiders with Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink and heat set it.  I then stamped it again with clear Versamark ink (I have forgotten to mention this week a MISTI sure comes in handy for this technique!) and embossed with clear embossing powder.  I scattered some of the powder so a little white would show through.  After inking with the black ink I used a white Gelly Roll pen to add the spider strings hanging down and some rhinestones.  I also spritzed a little gold glimmer.  Orange card stock and black and white card stock from Recollections with a white card base finished the card.  I am not a Halloween person but this turned out to be my favorite card of the week!  And by the way, make sure you have a refill for your ink pad!  Gracie

Friday Freestyle 39-2017

Today's prompt is to create any card you want using this week's technique of Black Emboss Resist.

Yep - it's time for pumpkins!  This card was fun to make!  I used a Inkadinkadoo stamp and several colors of distress inks (Spiced Marmalade, Fired Brick, Mustard Seed and Crushed Olive).  The sentiment is stamped with gold embossing powder.  After the ink dried on the pumpkin I stamped the image again with clear Versamark ink and clear embossing powder.  I used Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  The panel is mounted on brown and cream paper then a cream card base.  Gracie

Colorful Thursday 39-2017

Today's prompt is to use these colors on the card and use the Black Emboss Resist technique.  Here is my card:

I used a stamp set I no longer have in the package so I am unsure of the source but I really like it!  I stamped the bird with Stampin' Up Coastal Cabana and stamped a few leaves again coloring the stamp with a green Tombow watercolor marker.  The feather and sentiment are stamped with Stawberry Slush and Crisp Cantaloupe.  After embossing with clear Versamark ink and clear embossing powder I sponged on Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.  I added some colored metal dots and mounted the panel on graphic45 paper.  The card base is white.  I missed the mark with my green!  Gracie

WOW Wednesday 39-2017

Today's prompt is to use the Black Emboss Resist technique, but step up the card using sequins, glitter pens, etc.

I began today with two stamp sets.  The flower is from So Suzy Stamps and the sentiment is from Altenew.  I stamped the flowers with Stampin' Up Strawberry Slush and Crisp Cantaloupe.  I heat set the ink then stamped again using clear Versamark ink and clear embossing powder on the flowers and gold embossing powder on the sentiment.  I added pearl Nuvo drops and the small pewter key for embellishment.  I spritzed the card lightly with gold mist (if I did it over I would have skipped that step but I had already put a lot of work into it!)  It is mounted on cranberry card stock and graphic45 paper and on a white card base.  Gracie

Thank You Tuesday 39-2017

Today's prompt is to create a thank you card using the Black Emboss Resist technique.

I started today's card with a stamp set from Technique Tuesday.  I stamped it with clear Versamark ink and embossed with gold embossing powder.  I decided to use all black on today's card.  I added shimmer by spritzing with Nuvo gold mousse in water and added some pearl Nuvo crystal effects.  I mounted the panel on Rose Cottage paper and placed it on a cream card stock base.  Gracie

Masculine Monday 39-2017

Today's prompt is to create a masculine card using the Black Emboss Resist technique.

I had fun with this card!  I chose a Tim Holtz stamp set.  I used Distress inks in three colors: Spiced Marmalade, Mustard Yellow and Scattered Straw.  I heat set the inks after stamping.  I used clear Versamark ink and clear embossing powder the sponged the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I place the panel on graphic45 paper then mounted it on a craft card stock base.  I added some white enamel dots.  Looks masculine to me and I am mailing it off to my grandson at boarding school!  Gracie

Clean & Simple Sunday 39-2017

Hi! It's Gracie here as this week's CADC Designer.

This month's theme is inspired by Jennifer McGuire.

This week we are using a "Black Emboss Resist" technique.

Today's prompt is to create a card on the clean and simple side or as a one layer card.

I must admit I was not a fan of this technique.  I think it is because I am not fond of all black cards.  They seem dreary.  By the end of the week I really enjoyed making them to my surprise!  Today's card started with a stamp from Our Daily Bread.  I stamped the image on Whisper White card stock with Salty Ocean Distress Ink.  I used a heat gun to dry the ink.  I then stamped the image again with clear Versamark ink and used clear embossing powder on the image.  Next is the messy part!  Using a sponge dauber I covered the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  I cut the panel down in size and mounted it on Rustic Cottage paper.  I die cut the sentiment from the Rustic Cottage paper also.  I used white card stock as a card base.  I added some clear rhinestones to finish the card.  Gracie

One Stamp Set Saturday - #38-2017

Saturday's challenge is to use one stamp set along with the technique for the week (Pearlized Stamp Layering). Just as a reminder, a video for the technique can be found here.

The stamp set I am using is Layered Lily by Altenew.

This set has lilies that actually use four layers.  I used two of them for the technique and stamped another, the centers, with Versafine black ink.  I stamped two of the flowers directly on the card base and stamped another on a scrap piece of the same cardstock as the base.  I fussy cut the third one and attached it with foam tape. The stems I hand drew with a marker, then added Wink of Stella to make them go better with the shimmer of the Perfect Pearls on the flowers.  Overall while I liked most of the cards with the technique, it seemed to be a lot of work (especially with having to make sure to spray with fixative).  In the end the ones I like the best were covering all of the cardstock with the Perfect Pearls and stamping to remove it with a stamp inked in Versamark.  I will probably put the technique to the side for awhile before I try it again. - Denise

Friday Freestyle - #38-2017

Freestyle Friday allowed me to do a nautical theme with the Pearlized Stamping technique.

I started by swiping Versamark on a piece of cream cardstock and then using a brayer to apply even more Versamark so that it was coated evenly.  I brushed on Perfect Pearls Forever Red.  I used a cute seahorse stamp from the Unity KOM July 2013 called Spirit of Summertime inked up with Versamark to remove the Perfect Pearls and leave the design.  This was the first one I did using the technique for this week and as you can see from the rubbed off places surrounding the seahorse oval, I learned that you have to spray a fixative on it to prevent rub-off.  I decided that it looked distressed with the rubbed off part, so I went ahead with using it.   I used an oval die to it out and mimic the oval shape of the stamp.  I stamped the hello sentiment on a burlap strip using Distress Oxide inks and put the oval on foam tape.  The background paper is by Graphic 45 from a collection called By the Sea. - Denise

Colorful Thursday 38-2017

The color challenge for this month includes these colors.
I had a harder time with this challenge because the Perfect Pearls I am using for the technique all week (Pearlized Stamp Layering) really aren't these colors.

Here is what I ended up with.

I just received a paper stack from DCWV called Watercolors for my birthday and they were the perfect colors for the challenge.  I finally decided on a stamp set that I could use which is from Unity Stamp Company and is called Spirit of Summertime.  I used the same technique as the rest of the week using Perfect Pearls, Forever red and Forest Green.  The second detail stamp for the flower and leaves is pretty subtle, but looks nice in person.  I fussy cut it and popped the flower and bottom leaf up on foam to give it some dimension. - Denise

WOW Wednesday - #38-2017

Today is our WOW factor day in which we add some sort of bling to our cards.

I tend to be more CAS and don't use a lot of bling, but I did come up with a cute way to add some rhinestones.

I stamped the goldfish on a darker gold card stock with Versamark and then went over it with Perfect Pearls Perfect Gold.  The stamp set is by Hero Arts and is called Layering Goldfish, so it has a second stamp to go over the first and gives it the details.  I stamped that layer with Versamark which removes the Perfect Pearls.  As I learned early on, you need to spray some sort of fixative on the Perfect Pearls or they will rub off.  I pulled an old paper I had of reflected water and sprayed a shimmer mist over that.  After it dried I fussy cut the fish and put them on along with stamping the sentiment from the same stamp set.  I then used graduated sizes of rhinestones to look like bubbles from the fish. - Denise

Thank You Tuesday 38-2017

Thank You Tuesday using the Pearlized Stamp Layering technique.

I received a gift card for Joann's so I decided to splurge and buy a card making magazine, Paercraft Inspiration, that had a layering stamp set included with it.  The flowers are from that set called Peonies and Orchids.  I stamped with the solid stamp three times on a paper from DCWV stack called Lilac Love using Versamark along with a Thank You sentiment and then brushed them with Perfect Gold Perfect Pearls.  I used the lined stamps inked up in Versamark aligning them the best I could.  You do have to clean the stamp between times because the Perfect Pearls sticks to it and would get on the Versamark pad.  I used another paper from the stack to mat behind it. - Denise

Masculine Monday 38-2017

I love making masculine cards and it was a little challenging using the pearlized layering for a male card, but I really like what I finally came up with.

I have a background stamp from Local King Rubber called Timberline that looks like part of the end of a log.  I thought it would look cool with the shimmer from the Perfect Pearls so I took a dark brown card stock and swiped Versamark all over it and used Perfect Bronze Perfect Pearls. on it.  As it turned out, just swiping did not put it on evenly and the Perfect Pearls didn't adhere correctly.  On to another piece of cardstock.  This time I used a brayer to apply the Versamark before using the Perfect Pearls.  The Perfect Pearls did go on much better.  When I inked up the background stamp with Versamark and stamped the prepared cardstock, I didn't push evenly and the pattern didn't show up very well.  On to my third try and that seemed to be the charm.  I did use a part of the second try to stamp the sentiment (also with Versamark to remove the Perfect Pearls).  The sentiment is from Jillian Vance and is called TREEmedous Love.  I used nesting dies to cut around the sentiment and mat. Also don't forget to use a fixative over it or it will rub off which is a lesson I also learned on the second try.- Denise

Clean & Simple Sunday 38-2017

This is Denise and I will be the designer for this week as we are inspired by Jennifer McGuire all this month.

This week I will be using a technique called Pearlized Stamp Layering.  How to do this technique can be found here.

Today is a Clean & Simple card.

This technique involves stamping with Versamark, applying Perfect Pearls and then stamping over that with Versamark using the layering part of the stamp.  I used two stamps from the Unity Stamp Company's KOM for August called Never Be Afraid. that are meant to be layered. I stamped the base on navy card stock and dusted the Perfect Pearls color called perfect pearls.  I then used the second set on top of that which removes the Perfect Pearls in that pattern.  for the sentiment, I applied Versamark on a scrap piece of the navy cardstock, put on the Perfect Pearls and then stamped the sentiment using the Versamark which removed the Perfect Pearls and let the navy cardstock show through.  A couple of things I learned was to use an embossing buddy on the cardstock to help keep the Perfect Pearls from sticking where you don't want it.  Also I had to spray a fixative over the image after using the second set, but before working to put the card together or it would rub off. It shimmers a lot more in person, than the picture shows. - Denise

One Stamp Set Saturday - #37-2017

This is my last card for the week highlighting the distress resist technique. It’s One Stamp Saturday. So this was a bit of a challenge for me. I’ve used background stamps all week and wasn’t sure how to add a sentiment. Here’s what I came up with.

I started with Simon Says STAMP’s Star Flower Background stamp and 100 lb cardstock. I added color with distress inks (twisted citron and peacock feathers) using ink blending tools and blending the colors a bit with a waterbrush. To add a sentiment, there’s a die cut using Simon Says STAMP’s Thanks die. I added Wink of Stella for a bit of sparkle. To complete the card, I added three sequins for more sparkle.

Thanks for hanging out with me this week.
Sue

Friday Freestyle - #37-2017

You’re going to need sunglasses because today’s card is really bright. Like the rest of this week, I used Jennifer McGuire's distress resist technique. Here is my card.

I started with Hero Arts Looped Circle background stamp, Versamark ink and regular 100 lb cardstock. I added twisted citron distress ink direct-to-paper, leaving uneven edges. I added a bright orange flourish die cut using My Favorite Things Large Fancy Flourish die. The sentiment uses Papertrey Ink’s Keep It Simple: Thank You stamp set stamped on a yellow banner.

Colorful Thursday - #37-2017

It's Day 5 of this week's Distress Resist technique. Today is Colorful Thursday and the challenge was to use this color prompt on my card.

Image may contain: text

Here's my card

I started with Impression Obsession Cover-a-card Flourishes stamp set, Versamark ink and glossy paper. I added distress inks (spun sugar, picked raspberry, mowed lawn and peacock feathers) using the direct to paper technique. The mini distress inks work really well for this. I cut the panel down to 3” x 4 ¼”. I found a scrap of green cardstock. I stamped the sentiment using Hero Arts Color Layering Bouquet. I used Paper Smooches’ Butterfly Duet die to cut the butterfly using bright pink cardstock. I added a few tiny pearls on the butterfly’s body to complete the card.

WOW Wednesday - #37-2017

Well, it's halfway through the week and we're highlighting Jennifer McGuire's distress resist technique. Today is WOW Wednesday which means stepping the card up with the use of sequins, glitter pens, Nuvo drops etc. Here's my card.

For the background, I used Hero Arts Looped Circle background stamp and Versamark ink.  I added colour using distress inks (mustard seed, spiced marmalade, picked raspberry). As I used regular 100 lb cardstock, I had to add a lot of ink, to reveal the resist. I made a bright yellow tag, using Stampin’ Up’s Ornate Tag Topper punch. The sentiment is from Simon Says STAMP Flower Friend stamp set. To step up the card, I added a thin glitter strip on the tag, shiny ribbon on the tag and used a Sakura silver glitter pen to colour in the intersection circles.

Thank you Tuesday - #37-2017

Hi - Sue back again and today is Thank You Tuesday.  All the cards this week use Jennifer McGuire's Distress Resist technique. Here's my card.

I stamped using Stampin’ Up’s Corner Garden stamp with Versamark ink on glossy paper. I waited for the Versamark to dry and added “blobs” of colour using distress inks (spiced marmalade, picked raspberry, ripe persimmon, twisted citron) applied with ink blending tools. The sentiment is from Simon Says STAMP Flower Friend stamp set. I added a few sequins for a bit of shine and sparkle.

Masculine Monday - #37-2017

It's Sue again. My cards this week all use Jennifer McGuire's Distress Resist technique. Today is Masculine Monday. Here's my card.

My card uses what I consider to be masculine colours (blue and purple). I started with Impression Obsession’s Circle Fusion background stamp with Versamark ink on glossy paper.  Once the Versamark was dry, I added distress inks (mermaid lagoon and seedless preserves) with ink blending tools. I trimmed the panel down to 2 1/8” x 4 ¼”. I die cut the word happy using Memory Box’s Paintbrush Happy and stamped the birthday using Simon Says STAMP Happy Stamp set. If you’re going to try this with glossy paper, give the ink a bit more time to dry. To add a bit of shine, I added a silver cord, tied in a knot and used a royal blue background to complete the card.

Clean & Simple Sunday - #37-2017

Hi! It’s Sue here at Card A Day Challenge Blog.
We’re so happy that you’ve stopped by.
This month, we’re highlighting techniques shown by Jennifer McGuire.
The technique that I’ll be focusing on this week, is what she calls Distress Resist.
You can watch Jennifer use this technique here. It’s like heat embossing without using embossing powder and a heat tool (emboss resist). Instead, you use just the Versamark, which acts as a resist. What I learned, is that this technique works better with glossy paper and you definitely need to apply a lot of ink to reveal the resist. Actually, in some cases, I applied the ink directly to paper.
This week, I’ll be showing you some of my cards.

Let’s get started. My first card is for Clean & Simple Sunday. Here’s my card.

I used Impression Obsession’s Circle Fusion background stamp with Versamark ink on glossy paper. I waited a bit to be sure that the Versamark was dried before I applied distress ink (twisted citron, mermaid lagoon) with ink blending tools. HINT – use a lot of ink! The resist shows up best with a lot of ink. I cut the panel down to 2 1/8” x 4 ¼” and matted with a mid-gray strip. I die cut the sentiment from the same mid-gray cardstock using Papertrey Ink’s Wonderful Words: Thank You die. I added a few sequins for a bit of sparkle.

Thanks for visiting.

One Stamp Set Saturday

Today's prompt:  One Stamp Set with the Technique
The stamp set:  Winnie and Walter's Ring in the Celebration (Also from CP SOA)

I swiped Hero Arts Neon Dye Ink on the three solid circles.  Not only did I use one stamp set, I used the same inks throughout the card.  The black ink is Versafine.  This is a really fun stamp set to play with as there are endless design possibilities.  - Kimberly

Friday Freestyle

Today's prompt...create any card using the technique.

I pulled more Catherine Pooler SOA stamp sets out for this card.  I enjoy making my own patterned paper and the technique worked beautifully.   I swiped both the large and small flower stamps using Hero Arts Dye Ink.  The greenery is also stamped with Hero Arts Dye Ink. -Kimberly

Colorful Thursday

Today's Challenge:  use the technique and provided color prompt

Color Prompt

I created this one layer card using Distress Oxide Inks (Picked Raspberry, Peeled Paint, Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick.  The technique worked well with the Oxide Ink.  I stenciled  (Wendy Vecchi) the background with Worn Lipstick, Stamped the sentiment (CP SOA) with Peeled Paint, the small flowers (CP SOA) with Picked Raspberry and swiped the butterfly (CP SOA) with Peacock Feathers.  This week, I applied the technique with several different types/brands of ink.  I think the Distress Oxides worked best. - Kimberly

Shapely Saturday 35-2017

There are different ways to get a shaped card.

Here Sue uses one of her dies.

Using CAS-ual Fridays’ Fri-Dies Funky Round die, I die-cut the round tag (overlapping slightly at the top to make it “card-like”). I used silver embossing powder and Catherine Pooler’s Holiday Magic Stamp of Approval’s CAS-ual Fridays’ Bring on the Snowflakes stamp for the heat embossed snowflake on red cardstock. I used a circle die to cut that out. It came together quite easily, once I figured out what to do! LOL! - Sue

C.A.S.E A Card Friday #35-2017

What fun it is to C.A.S.E. a card.

Rainbow is the inspiration that Sue saw in the example.

Friday CASE A Card Challenge
I was inspired by the colours, the stripes and the block letters, each corresponding to a coloured stripe. I flipped the card 90 degrees. Using distress inks (picked raspberry, barn door, mustard seed, peeled paint and faded jeans), which I think are a good representation of the colours on the CASE card  and a water brush, I added the colour to a piece of watercolour paper. When I finished, I noticed that the stripes on the right were longer than the stripes on the left. So, I thought that I could “fix” it by extending the stripes on the left. What I noticed was that it looked like paint drips. I liked the effect, so I added them to the other stripes too. I used Memory Box’s Many Thanks die for the “thank” letters and Catherine Pooler’s Beautiful World Stamp of Approval box’s CAS-ual Fridays 2 Yous dies for the “you”. - Sue
