Mistletoe Monday 5-28

Hi everyone!

Today's theme is Mistletoe Monday, creating holiday cards. Since we are in the month of May, creating a holiday card was QUITE challenging for me! Buy hey, I've got one holiday card down already! Here is my card:

I found inspiration for this card from a recent Splitcoast Stampers challenge using patterned paper.  I love to use my patterned paper on cards because the look is so classic and professional. So, I pulled out my holiday patterned paper and, using a sketch I had on hand, trimmed it down in layers and strategically placed my paper on the card until I was satisfied with the look. (Hint: when working with patterned paper, use patterns and colors that coordinate well together, and choose one large pattern and one small pattern along with a solid color. Try to pick a color that will be a focal point. In this case, it's red.) I decided to emboss some of my solid color paper (the beige paper) with patterned dots to give it dimension without competing with the patterned paper. For my sentiment, I chose a bold one from Concord & 9th (their 2017 holiday release) and embossed it in black 3 times so it would stand out. I added a couple of layers behind it so the sentiment would be the focal point, adhered a bow "topper" since the sentiment is shaped like a Christmas tree, added a few red Nuvo drops, and I was done with my FIRST holiday card of 2018! Afterall, it's never too early to start planning for the holiday!  Except for the weather, I'm not ready for that yet...

Thanks for stopping by, see you tomorrow!

  1. Great use of patterned paper. I haven't tried to emboss anything 3 times, but this really stands out, so I might try it.

  2. Jennifer McGuire has some videos on it. It's great if you don't want to add many layers (better for mailing). I like working with patterned paper because I need to use it up!!
