July Stencil Extravaganza Week 1 Challenge 1

It's July already and that means it is time for a whole month of fun.

We are going to bring you an entire month of stencils, masks and more.

We are calling it
July Stencil Extravaganza!

We'll bring you a new challenge on Sunday and Wednesday, BUT there
will be new content on the blog each day.

We have a ton of Design Team members and Guest Designers who have
jumped on the extravaganza train to bring you a ton of great cards.

You won't want to miss even a single one!

So let's get started today with basic stenciling.

Basic stenciling is using the stencil to apply ink via brush,
direct-to-paper or sponge/foam applicator tools.

Click HERE for a video tutorial by Kristina Werner on the technique.

Now on with the cards...

This card was made with stamps and a stencil from My Favorite Things. The back ground is a cow print stencil and I used black water color to fill it in.  The cows are from one stamp. I stamped the cow 3 times on masking paper and cut them out. I then stamped the cow 3 times on my card front and covered them with the masks. I stamped the other 4 cows on the sides and in between the 3 cows in front.  I colored them with Copics and die cut the card front to fit on my background and adhered.  I love the cute little sentiment on the front. ~Paulyne

I've shared this card previously, but I love it so much I thought it might be worth a second look.  I combined a Mood Board and Inky Layers challenged to make this card.  On a panel of Whisper White I sponged circles of three different sizes in Crisp Cantaloupe and Smoky Slate, slightly overlapping each slightly.  I decided on the sizes I wanted and the general layout and made a stencil from acetate, cutting it on my Silhouette.  I punched the small flowers in Crisp Cantaloupe using one of the Itty Bitty Punch Pack punches and the flower centers were cut in Calypso Coral using a Martha Stewart snowflake border punch.and placed them randomly with tiny pearls in each center.  I matted the panels on Smokey Slate and placed them on a base of Crisp Cantaloupe.
The greeting is digital from Stampin' Up.I split it putting half on the front and the other half on the inside.  ~Kim from Katydid Cards

I started by choosing Mod Spirals by The Crafters Workshop. I added colour in a bit of a random pattern with ink blending tools and distress inks (twisted citron, mustard seed, peacock feathers). The tag is cut using Spellbinders – Labels 8 die set. The sentiment is from Simon Says STAMP Lots of Thanks. I felt that the card needed a bit more, so I added die cuts made from Poppystamps – Leafy Sprig die from a bright green. The green was a bit too stark, so I added a bit of peacock feathers distress ink. I finished the card by using a turquoise mat to the card front. ~Sue

What a great start to this month long celebration of stenciling!

Stop back tomorrow for even more awesome cards with basic stenciling.

Happy Crafting

  1. It looks like this month is going to be a good one. Love to see all the different directions people go with the same starting point.
