Card Sketch Wednesday #31

Today's card sketch:

This was all done using a paper kit from Carta Bella called Sew Lovely.  Using chipboard embellishments from the kit made it go together very quickly.  I love how everything matches with those kits.  This will be sent to a friend of mine who loves to sew.  ~ Denise

Color Challenge Tuesday #31

Today's color challenge:

I found a card stack from DCWV in my stash called The Sweet Blossom Stack and decided that the colors were a good match to this.  I usually don’t combine so many patterns together, but I really like the way it came out.  The hexagons were cut from some nesting dies that I have on my Cuttlebug and it was easy to center the bird that way.  ~Denise

Mistletoe Monday #30

Today's challenge is to create a card using Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree as inspiration.

Here is Denise's take:

Even though the song was running through my head, I thought of a rocking horse when I read the challenge.  I made it using the Cricut cartridges – Christmas for the tree and Heritage for the rocking horse. I welded a rectangle to the bottom of the tree, then copied that image, flipped it and welded those two together to make the card base. The cardstock is from Authentique, the Believe series.  A rectangle of cream was used to stampe the sentiment on.  The horse was just glued to the front. I cut the shaped card on my Cricut Expression using my Gypsy because my internet was down at home and I couldn’t use my Explore.  A good reason to keep the old technology too.  ~Denise

Clean & Simple Sunday #31

Today's challenge is to create a clean and simple Halloween card.

Denise is your designer of the week, here is what she made:

I did a quick card on black card stock with a panel of spider web card stock.  It was from Making Memories – Toil and Trouble.  I just purchased the Studio G stamp especially for my daughter who hates spiders and stamped it on orange cardstock from Echo Park.  It was so quick to make, that I made 2 and put the sentiment in different positions.  I like the one in the lower corner better. ~Denise

Mood Board Inspired Saturday #30

Today's mood board will provoke a few childhood memories for you.

Here is Denise's card:

I went with the game feel of the board along with all the grids in it and made a birthday card.  The grid paper and "Happy Birthday" were from a paper stack by Crate Paper called Party Day. The Scrabble tiles were some I have had on hand for a while and have used on other projects.  I am getting low on usable letters and may have to find more.  ~Denise

Anything Goes Friday #30

Yes, I got a little crazy doing these cards.
They are all a little different, but WOW what a statement they make.

So today's challenge is to get inky!
Pull out your inks and make a bright and colorful inked background,
letting it stand on it's own with just a sentiment.

I choose to use a Impression Obsession Cover-A-Card Leaf stamp.
First I used several colors of Ranger Distress Ink to cover a background piece.
Then I stamped the leaf stamp using Versa Mark clear ink.
I then used WOW clear embossing powder and heat set.
I then used Ranger Distress Black Soot ink to cover the entire card and used a dry
cloth to wipe off the excess ink from the embossed leaves.

I just love how they turned out.

Thursday Technique #30

Today's challenge: Create a card that is
stenciled with ink or texture paste/gel medium.

This was a real challenge for me since I didn't have any stencils.  I cut one out on my Explore using a piece of cardboard from the back of one of my paper stacks since I save everything.  I used a red spray ink that I had (and on yellow paper it turned orange) and went over that with Perfect Pearls gold.  On my first try, I sprayed too much ink and it ran and wasn't crisp.  The second try was better, but the cardboard started curling due to the moisture from the spray.  If I try it again, I will cut it out of some sort of plastic.  ~ Denise

Color Challenge Tuesday #30

Today's  color challenge:

Here's Denise's take on the color challenge:

I didn't have any patterned paper with these colors in them, so I just punched butterflies with my Martha Stewart Punch out of teal and coral paper.  I then colored the body black and spritzed them with Perfect Pearls spray.  I folded the wings up slightly to give it some dimension and put it on wood grain paper. ~Denise

Mood Board Inspired Saturday #29

Today's Mood Board Inspiration

Here's Kathy's take on the mood board:

I used SU! Adventure Bound paper to make the card, then added a bit if SU!
Stitched satin ribbon to some tulle to dress it up a bit.
Everything on the mood board reminded me of a body of water and I didn't want to do a "beach" card.  Enjoy!

Thursday Technique #29

Today's technique challenge is to use watercolors or gelatos
or other ink mediums to create a colorful background on your card.

I used Stampin Up inks on Tim Holtz water color paper and then misted it.
The Hello die cut is stampin up as well.  I used SU!basic black ink and misted that as well.
The metal embellishments are game spinners, also from SU!

Mood Board Inspired Saturday #28

Today's Mood Board is a little Moroccan inspiration.

Let's see what Anna came up with:

In keeping with the multi-patterned mood board, I used several different patterned papers cut in shapes.
I used a template from Tim Holtz for the pink flowered paper,
a Kiwi Lane template for the white background paper
(these are both from a Craft Smith paper pack called Sweet Soiree, and the chevron background paper is from Nine & Co / Theresa Collins / Sunburst).

Anything Goes Friday #28

I thought I'd show off today a few of the cards I've made for swaps with a new to me background stamp called Fizz. It's a Cover-A-Card stamp by Impression Obsession

I used Ranger Distress Inks Minis and spritzed the inked stamp lightly with water then stamped it on my background piece.  I created a second one without reinking, just spritzing again with water.

The tags were pre-made chalkboard tags that I had in my stash.

Card Sketch Wednesday #28

Today's Card Sketch:

For my sketch card I laid a paper doily over the card and sprayed it with Prima Color Bloom "Cotton Candy"  I didn't notice the paper had a texture till I sprayed it but it gave it a pebble finish.  So a happy accident.  I used a cut file from Design Space to create the tag which is pop dotted to raise it up. I added Queen and Co felt flowers and I found some crushed velvet ribbon in my stash and cut leaves out of it, then glued them under the flowers.

then glued the card stock in the middle.
I added a little tag with another flower stamp on it.

Mistletoe Monday #28

Today's challenge is to create a holiday card based on the song Silent Night.

Here is Anna's card:

When I think of Silent Night I always think of Mary and Joseph sitting by the manger
wondering why in the world God picked them to raise the savior of all mankind.
What a huge task!  But I believe they had peace in their heart that all would be well.

I used a cut file from Design space and used glitter paper for the star layer.  I used a pearl ink pad for
the edging of the card.

Clean and Simple Sunday #28

Today's challenge is to create a Birthday card for ages 7-10.

Anna is your design guru this week and this is what she came up with:

I made this card using cut files from Cricut Design Space.

I placed an action wobble behind the frog to make it more fun.

Wink of Stellas were used for the glitter effect.  For the inside I used the writing option
in Explore to draw the greeting.  I added a smaller flat frog inside.

Mood Board Inspired Saturday #27

We are throwing a new challenge your way for Saturday's in September.
Similar to the Color Challenges that we host each week, these challenges are Mood Board Inspired.

Today's Mood Board:

Whether you use the colors, the textures or the prints, maybe the fonts to inspire you, you'll find plenty of great opportunities to create beautiful cards.

Here is Gracie's take on this board:

This card was made using the mood board for inspiration.
I love the cacti in the middle with the greens and pinks and I like the Grey also.
I used the watercolor method using my Tim Holtz distress inks to make the background ad some Stampin Up ribbon with old Creative Memories flowers.  Added some rhinestones because I am all about that bling!  I printed my sentiment on white cardstock with grey ink.
I really like how the background turned out.  Gracie

Anything Goes Friday #26 Guest Designer Michelle Wallace

Today we welcome Michelle Wallace as our guest designer.

Michelle has created this awesome card for you.

The butterfly is from Eclectic Images and stamped in versafine  onyx black and clear embossed.
Then I colored the wings in with my Zig clean color real brush markers and added a little wink of Stella.
The sentiment is from the Essentials by Ellen Mondo Magnolia set.
I added a few clear sequins and splattered some color on with a paint brush.

And a little bit about myself.
I live in a small bayside suburb of Melbourne in Australia.  I am married to the love of my life and we have been together for nearly 36 years!  We have two beautiful sons aged 23 and 26.
I have been card making for about 5 years now but I became obsessed with it when I found Catherine Pooler and joined her wonderful site called Stamp Nation two years ago.

I hope you like it.  ~Michelle
